This month I am back with a well rounded review of the one and only Selfless by Hyram! If there’s anything I have learned in my skincare journey, is that less is more. Just like Hyram’s skincare philosophy: “effective, gentle and non-irritating skincare with high performing earth-conscious ingredients” is the way to go. As someone who suffers from acne prone skin, gentle yet effective is my motto! If you’re someone who loves all this too, then you’re in for a treat! But before we start, head to my Instagram page to view my texture reels. Link will be provided! Let’s dive right on in…
About Selfless by Hyram
Selfless by Hyram is a beauty brand that puts social impact first. They focus on where and how ingredients are bought, how to give back to charity in a meaningful way, all providing gentle, yet effective skincare. It was built by the skin influencer Hyram, known as Skincare by Hyram, and is powered by The Inkey List.
“Through Selfless by Hyram I want to connect the beauty industry with social change. My goal is to help people by not only creating high quality skincare with incredible formulations, but to also give people an opportunity to empower others around the world who are impacted by some of the biggest global issues known to our generation. I want to help people change the world just by doing their skincare routine.”

Consumer Impact
For every product purchased, consumers help to provide clean drinking water or protects tropical forests from deforestation.

They’ve partnered with:
Rainforest Trust to protect tropical forests from deforestation. As stated on the website, the world’s tropical forests combined store 25% of the world’s carbon. In 2019 alone, over 80,000 acres of tree cover in the t ropics was destroyed each day – that’s a football field every 6 seconds. Tropical forests contain 66% of all biodiversity and support the livelihoods of over 1 billion people. Click here to learn more.
Thirst Project in providing access to clean water eSwatini, Africa through youth activism. As stated on their website, over 780 million people worldwide do not have access to basic clean drinking water. Climate change is projected to increase the number of water-stressed regions and exacerbate shortages in already water-stressed regions. Women and girls are responsible for water collection in 8 out of 10 households. Click here to learn more.

Knowing that this brand is powered by The Inkey List, and is built around social impact makes me really happy. Hyram isn’t going to create a brand that has no social impact. Skincare is part of everyone’s routine, and we go through so much waste as well. Might as well create a brand that makes a difference in the world.
REDUCING PACKAGING IMPACT

My Thoughts
Slow and steady wins the race. Especially with this formula. This works great as a targeted treatment, or as an all over serum. The texture is very light, and a couple of drops goes a long way! With Salicylic Acid and Succinic Acid products, it takes me over a month to see the results that I am targeting. I get hormonal acne, occasional breakouts and clogged pores, so this helps to maintain all of that over time. It reduces my oiliness, unclogs my pores without over-drying, reduces any bacteria to help prevent breakouts.
It’s at a great price, and you honestly can’t go wrong. Just keep in mind that with all of the Selfless products, the packaging is specifically designed to release a certain amount of product. Too much is really too much.
Retinol & Rainbow Algae Repair Serum
The Retinol & Rainbow Algae Repair Serum is hands down my top 2 favourite products from this line. It is a gentle, slow-release Retinol, formulated with Rainbow Algae and Tranexamic Acid to work together overnight to reduce the appearance of post-acne marks, target hyperpigmentation, provide an even skin tone with a smoother, brighter complexion.
Details:
- 2% Encapsulated Retinol Complex (0.2% retinol)
- 1.5% Rainbow Algae Complex (0.15% Rainbow Algae Extract)
- 2% Tranexamic Acid
- 4% Squalane
- Apply 4-5 drops in the evening. For best results use daily.
- Formulated to be gentle, but if you’re new to retinol, start by using it 2-3 times per week.
- Do not use in the same routine as exfoliating products. Do not use around eyes.
- Fragrance Free, Palm Free
- Vegan & Cruelty Free

My Thoughts
I LOVE THIS. I LOVE RETINOL PRODUCTS! Retinol and retinoic products have done wonders for my acne prone skin. I’m prone to hyperpigmentation, and over a long period of use, retinol really is one of the game changers in my skincare routine. My skin over time reveals a brighter, hydrated, even complexion, and has worked wonders on my post-acne pigmentation.
I love the packaging because less is more! Over-using a product is not necessary, which Hyram obviously knows that, so the packaging was designed strategically to release a certain amount! The packaging definitely takes a bit of getting used to but you can’t be upset over that in my opinion. It’s created for you to use the correct amount your skin will need, and nothing more, plus, the packaging is sustainable.
100% recommend this. Great for sensitive skin as well. If new to retinol, use 1-3 times per week. Maybe even once a week if you’re on the extremely sensitive side.
Niacinamide & Maracuja: Daily Barrier Support Moisturizer
The best lightweight yet hydrating moisturizer I have ever tried. The Niacinamide & Maracuja Daily Barrier Support Moisturizer is “your daily support for happier healthier skin” indeed. It is a combination of barrier strengthening Niacinamide and bioactive, skin-soothing Maracuja, plus other hydrating extras to help support the skin, even the skin, soothe and hydrate irritated skin.
Details:
- 5% Niacinamide: help to reduce oiliness and refine pore appearance
- 1% Maracuja Seed Oil: promotes the skin healing process by supporting damaged or weakened skin
- 0.19% Madecassoside: soothes sensitive skin
- 1% Murumu Seed Butter: leaves skin with a soft, silk like fiinish without the need for silicone
- Use AM and PM daily
- To be used after cleansing and serums, gently massage a pea sized amount on to face and neck
- In the AM, follow with an SPF. Do not use around eyes.
My Thoughts
The best lightweight hydrating moisturizer I’ve ever tried. I’ve always been that person that loved layering all of thick products because nothing felt enough. Until I’ve learned what my skin truly needs, I didn’t really get my skin (follow my instagram for more on that). Until this Niacinamide moisturizer. WOW. Niacinamide is an under-rated ingredient. A power house ingredient if you ask me, that benefits EVERY ONE. Literally anyone with any skin concern, niacinamide will probably help.
Niacinamide has worked to reduce my oiliness, which becomes worse in the second half of my menstrual cycle. In other words, a week before my period and during my period. I’ve never used any Maracuja, Madescassoide, or Murumu Seed Butter, and I thoroughly enjoy this combination. All of this ingredients have worked to support any damaged or weakened skin throughout the months. It has soothed my skin when I had any inflammation.
Can we take a moment to talk about the texture and finish though. The Murumu Seed Butter is what leaves the skin with a soft, silk like finish without the need for silicone. The Inkey List & Hyram, y’all mastered this for real. I wish I had this year 6 years ago when my skin was at its worst!
Overall Thoughts
For people who are new to skincare, the Selfless by Hyram, powered by the Inkey List, is a great start to an introduction of skincare. Follow both the Inkey List and Hyram to learn the proper steps you should be taking in your skincare routine. The Inkey List has a skincare quiz for you to target your specific concerns as well.
Skincare is fun. Skincare is great. It’s even better when brands take the time to really understand what consumers and the world needs. The recyclable packaging, the product release design via the packaging, the ingredients, giving back… All of that has become increasingly important to me. It makes me feel good that the things I am doing on a regular basis like purchasing products, gives back, even if we may not be aware of it. We are the future. We need to be better to Mother Nature.
I can’t wait to try the other two products from Selfless by Hyram in the future. I have heard AMAZING things about the Centella & Green Tea Hydrating Gel Cleanser, and the Mandelic Acid & Rice Bran Gentle Exfoliating Serum.
