My Bare Necessities: Skincare Routine Edition

This week I bring you my bare necessities! AKA my skincare routine and some of my ALL TIME FAVOURITE PRODUCTS!

This week I’m going to cover a lot of skincare products for y’all. Let’s start by telling you a little bit about my skin. First, I have combination skin – oily in the T-Zone, and during the winter my hydration is just sucked right out of me. I use these products interchangeably during the week. But generally these are all products that my skin has been loving! Big thanks to the products I have featured today because my skin is feeling so good! Also feeling grateful to have access to clean, filtered water!

TIP: Drinking lots of water flushes the toxins out of your body and anything else that shouldn’t be there so it clears your skin of any dirt and bacteria!

Neutrogena Deep Clean Purifying Clay Cleanser & Mask

I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes. It’s designed to deeply clear your skin without stripping the skin. It targets skin impurities by drawing out the dirt, oil and makeup. This facial cleanser and clay mask technology helps to preserve the moisture and maintain soft, healthy-looking skin. It’s formulated with salicylic acid, which is anti-inflammatory and mildly antibacterial, great for acne-prone skin.

My Thoughts: I absolutely loved this. Face felt clean after using as cleanser, and even more clean after using as mask! Helped to calm the acne currently on my skin. I personally love products that contain salicylic acid, since it helps to control current, and future acne.

Glow Tonic

This product is easily one of their most popular products – and I understand why! This toner exfoliates, purifies the skin and contains Glycolic Acid, great for exfoliation and brightening the skin. Which is exactly why I love it.

My thoughts: This product does everything – hydrates, soothes, exfoliates, brightens, refines appearance of pores, balances and heals for healthier skin. Bonus: NOT TESTED ON ANIMALS. And improves circulation and makes your skin look energized.

Rose Oil Blend

This is a luxe, ultra-nourishing oil that rejuvenates, restores and renews skin’s luminosity. This blend is infused with a complex of youth–preserving oils such as sweet almond, rosehip, jojoba, pomegranate seed, and rose geranium oils to improve skin’s elasticity and glow. This product is suited on all skin types. BONUS: not tested on animals! None of Pixi products are ;).

My thoughts: Winter in Canada can drain the hydration out of you – and this saved my skin! Either applying 2-3 drops alone under moisturizer, or mixed in with my moisturizer, this DEEPLY HYDRATED MY SKIN. With consistent use, lots of liquids, this truly changed my skin around. BOTH products from Pixi have truly changed my skin. My skin can be sensitive sometimes, but I have no problems with any of their products. Pores are less refined, skin is less red, and ultimately made my skin feeling silky. Perfect for deep nourishment in your nighttime routine. Not to mention, this smells heavenly!

My Thoughts: I enjoy using this product on weekends or days I wear little to no makeup. It does a decent job in removing leftover makeup – but you need extra steps to remove all traces of makeup. The days I use this when I am wearing no makeup, it adds hydration as it’s meant to. At such an affordable price, if you have sensitive skin, give this a try!

This clay mask is a cool and deep cleanse for your skin. Great for blemished complexions, providing a cooling sensation refreshing skin without over drying. This mask clears impurities while absorbing excess sebum, leaving your skin smoother and clearer.

My Thoughts: I’ve been using this product for almost a decade. It’s been around for a VERY long time, and this has been one of my favourite products. I’ve always had acne-prone skin, and I am also oily, so with a consistent use of this mask, it has helped clear my skin from all those impurities. I’m a fan of tea tree oil, using it directly on pimples, so this mask does wonders for my skin!

ORIGINS: Drink Up Intensive Overnight Hydrating Mask & Maskimizer

This Drink Up Intensive: Overnight Mask to Quench Skin’s Thirst is an ultra-rich, hydrating overnight mask. It contains Avocado and Apricot Kernel Oils to deeply and instantly add moisture by reserving and building a reservoir for tomorrow. The Japanese Seaweed helps repair skin’s barrier to prevent future dehydration and signs of premature aging, awakening the skin to feel comfortable, refreshed and supple.

TIP: take an extra step and mask to the max with this MASK PRIMING MIST. Containing Marine Algae complex to help hydrate, soften and optimize skin’s condition to fully prep your mask skin experience.

My Thoughts: I used this consistently during times where my skin just felt extremely dehydrated. No amount of water drinking helped, so using this combination brought some moisture back. Especially great during the harsh winter climate! Made my skin hydrated and youthful looking again.

This Ultra Facial Cream helps to reduce moisture loss while drawing and absorbing moisture from the air. With continuous moisture replenishment throughout the day, leaving skin smooth, soft and healthy looking (

TIP: Can be used day OR night. For extra hydration at night – add serum or oil.

My thoughts: I’ve gone through two, possibly three tubs of this. It is fairly pricey for the size shown in the picture, however, it lasts at least half a year or more, so it’s a great investment. My only con is that it’s not cruelty free. Otherwise, this product has helped maintain my skin’s moisture, is very light weight, not greasy, has no smell and isn’t sticky. By far the best moisturizer I have ever used. I sometimes mix the Rose Oil Blend, previously mentioned, to add an extra oomph. With consistent use, it has cured the flaky, red skin from our harsh Canadian winter. Provides a great base for hydration before foundation as well.
